Durham Addition / ADU

Close to Durham, NC’s bustling city center, this small home renovation added a full primary suite, living space, rear deck and accessory dwelling unit (ADU).

The proposed architecture and site plan needed to include a detached garage with a guest studio above, and it was imperative the interior design be as open as possible.

Ultimately a half wall L-shaped kitchen allowed the common area to be open and light, giving visual access across the entire home. The living room and the primary suite both have access to the rear deck, so the deck can be communal or private depending on the time of day and program function.
